The Art of Improvisation 1: Brazil

Banish the winter blues in the company of Welsh pianist and composer Huw Warren, as he explores the warmth of the Brazilian repertoire.  Come and enjoy a taste of Brazilian in the Ucheldre Kitchen before the concert.

In this second concert of a series of three, Huw explores the rich and varied culture of Brazilian music. Many people are aware of the Bossa Novas of Tom Jobim and Samba from Rio de Janeiro, but are less aware of other forms such as Chorinho, Baião, Frevo and Maracatu.  The concert will include arrangements of pieces by Hermeto Pascoal and Egberto Gismonti, Chorinhos by Pixinguinha and lyrical songs by Chico Buarqe and Guinga.

Huw has achieved an international reputation for innovative projects, and collaborations over a twenty-five year career.  Equally at home crossing the often exclusive worlds of Jazz, Classical and World music, he combines a beautiful delicate touch with a deeply lyrical musicality.

Huw fuses improvisations based on diverse sources in a surprisingly approachable way – dazzling virtuosity and humour are combined with moments of deep emotion.  What makes The Art of Improvisation unique is the ease in which he draws the audience into his various musical worlds with an informative yet informal, entertaining presentation.
