The Art of Improvisation 2: Classical Music (Old and New)
The pre-Christmas concert was re-scheduled so you may have seen earlier reference to this concert as being number 3 whereas it is now the second concert!
In the second of this series of three, Huw creates new forms and fusions from music from the classical repertoire. This concert will also feature projected images to accompany and augment the music.
His 2002 solo recording Infinite Riches in a little room was Guardian CD of the week and featured as its centre piece a set of variations on a theme of John Dowland. Further projects since have taken music by Bach, Chopin and Butterworth, and he has worked with many classical artists such as the Orlando Consort, Andrew Manse and most recently baroque record player Pamela Thorby.
Huw has achieved an international reputation for innovative projects, and collaborations over a twenty-five year career. Equally at home crossing the often exclusive worlds of Jazz, Classical and World music, he combines a beautiful delicate touch with a deeply lyrical musicality.
Huw fuses improvisations based on diverse sources in a surprisingly approachable way – dazzling virtuosity and humour are combined with moments of deep emotion. What makes The Art of Improvisation unique is the ease in which he draws the audience into his various musical worlds with an informative yet informal, entertaining presentation.
